Description
4 muted gray and white black veined and yellow crescent edged winged orchard swallowtails are displayed visiting 9 orange nasturtium flower blossoms with surrounding green leaves on a blue background in this beautiful butterfly garden nature mandala. Orchard swallowtails, Papilio aegeus, are found in Eastern Australia and New Guinea where their larvae feed on the leaves of citrus plants. In captive zoo butterfly exhibits nasturtium plants have been substituted successfully as host plants for their caterpillars. Many swallowtail butterflies are recognized for their long teardrop shaped extensions with tiny red, blue, and black eyespots found on their delicate hind wings. Exhibiting the same color combinations as their cousins, the orchard swallowtail lacks tail extensions. Swallowtail butterflies are favored among butterfly collectors worldwide. Over 530 named species of this butterfly can be found in the family Papilionidae. Multiple depictions of colorful butterflies can be found in my “Butterfly World” collection @ phelpsmandala.com. This image may be available on the following: tote bags, coffee mugs, phone cases, pillows, and ornaments.
