Description
6 fictional multi-patterned and multi-colored Mexican horse blanket butterflies lay on a multi-colored geometric and striped blanket pattern in this fantasy butterfly garden nature mandala. A few of the butterfly examples that you may find in my butterfly collection are fictitious created from my whimsy and hopefully for your amusement and enjoyment. Represented by handmade fabrics created by a variety of Southwestern Native Americans and Northern Mexico peoples and tribes, the term “Mexican Horse Blanket” refers to fabrics woven in any number of brightly colored stripes arranged in horizontal bands of varying width integrated with repeating geometrical shapes and designs. Originating, it is thought, in the early 1800’s, horse blankets were used as clothing in serapes and ponchos, in the home as floor coverings and room dividers in doorways and of course for horse protection from the chafing of a saddle. Since the 1950’s, they have been used in automobiles such as hot rods, lowriders and rat rods for cool custom car seat upholstery.
