Description
Recognized for their long teardrop shaped extensions and often with tiny red, blue, and black eyespots found on their delicate hind wings, swallowtail butterflies are favored among butterfly collectors. Over 530 named species of this butterfly can be found in the family Papilionidae. Found in the outer ring of this butterfly kaleidoscope are 12 black swallowtail butterflies Papilio polyxenes. The middle ring shows two svallowtail varieties: 6 light green zebra swallowtail butterflies with long, thin, and pointed extensions on their hind wings, Eurytides marcellus, paired with 6 peacock swallowtail butterflies, Papilio blumei, with blue, green, and yellow accented wings. 6 yellow Eastern tiger swallowtail butterflies with black stripes, Papilio glaucus are shown in the center ring. An art deco pattern of blue and yellow diamond shapes resides on a white background in this swallowtail butterfly collection mandala. Displayed her in print form this beautiful mandala can be found also on coffee mugs, tote bags, and pillows.
