Description
The Chiva art of Colombia, characterized by ovals circles, lines, and solid shapes, is the inspiration for this art deco designed red colored Plecostomus (Hypostomus) sucker mouth catfish on a black background with a blue repeating line dot pattern. Talented craftsman and painters of Central and South America build and decorate transportation buses (chivas) with elaborate designs much like flame painters and pinstripers do to hot rods and customs in the US. Each are personal and exciting and demand our attention for their beauty and unique style. I have applied this thinking to this whimsical fish image—a treat for the eyes. You will find this artwork as a display print and on coffee mugs and other home goods. Visit my website phelpsmandala.com for many more decorative and inventive nature inspired images including more Chiva, Native American, and primitive ornamental designs as well as over 900 nature mandalas. Artwork featured on the home page of the FAA artist's group "Environmental Art - Specifically Ocean Conservation" 12/22/21.
