Description
An imposing multicolored and fearsome tooth-bearing fish so named “Demon Wolf Fish,” Piscislupus daemonis, is presented in this homage to archival natural science museum nature prints on a white background. In some of my art I throw a wide (“not-so-sane”) net into my imagination! A few years ago, while sitting in a department meeting, I was doodling animals (not unusual) and a sketch similar to this fish emerged. It sat thumbtacked to my office wall for many months. Sometime later I was watching the TV show “River Monsters” hosted by the adventuresome and world-traveling fisherman Jeremy Wade when an episode on the Goliath Tigerfish came on----I was mesmerized. I remembered my weird sketch. So in the nutshell—the fish cast (yes you get my pun) in this image are based on 3 components---my weird imagination and sketch, the Goliath Tigerfish, Hydrocynus goliath, and the Atlantic Wolffish, Anarhichas lupus. You can find this fish in the nature panel “Dangerous Waters” also on this site. While you wander with wonder in “dangerous waters” be ever so careful….and be sure to visit phelpsmandala.com.-- you never know what you will find there.
