Description
4 varieties of colorful moths with varied colors and patterns are as follows: On the outside circle are 8 lime, yellow, rust and gray Malaysian Moon Moth, Actius maenas, silkmoths with feathery antennae and long thin hind wing red tails tipped in yellow. The next circle row has 8 sphinx Oleander hawk or sphinx moths, Daphnis nerii with green, pink, and gray forked wings with dark spots and stripes. The next circle row below has 8 sagebrush moths, Hemileuca hera, with light tan colored wings that have two eyespots and multiple dark brown horizontal ovals and 2 waving lines outlined in gray. The innermost circle shows 4 smaller orange colored webworm moths, Atteva aurea, with dark spots outlined in blue with smaller cream colored dots in the middle all as banding on its outstretched wings. They have all been gathered together to created this marvelous and magical many moth mandala on a white background. Habitat destruction comes in many forms threatening all moths: urban and agricultural development, wildfires, light pollution, non-native plant and predatory insect invasion, soil degradation and climate change each play a part. While moths may be considered pests, we marvel at their beauty and mobility while they inspire our imaginations and fuel our beliefs. As moths are drawn to a flame, we too are to moths!
