Description
Under the cloak of darkness and the glow of night lights, 4 chambered nautiluses, Nautilus pompilius, encounter schools of shrimp on a dark blue background in this night time marine deep sea nature mandala. Cephalopods have been roaming the underwater seas of the world for over 500 million years. During the Ordovician period, these gas filled chamber-shelled nautiluses were one of the apex predators feeding on primitive mollusks and arachnid trilobites. As a teenager, I stalked the Whitewater Formation limestone cliffs in Richmond, Indiana in search of their calcium-replaced fossilized shells found in both straight and coiled forms. Featured on the FAA artist's group "Environmental Art Ocean Conservation" home page 3/20/2021.

TIM,…SOOooo exciting!! PLEASE add an addendum behind the BUZzz on this beauty!… there are several images to the contest that have taken Autumnal light and shadow into the Sea, the Mountains…however., you are taking the DEEP DIVE into the UNDERSEA Magic. You speak to their ancient historical Presence…are they STILL roaming the sea depths to date? I notice you said you sought fossils as a teenager. Are they thought to be extinct? I would dearly love to know from an expert voice…LF ..BEST to you!
