6 vivid green African Moon silk moths with long tailed wings fly around gathering pink and purple fuchsia flower blossoms and green leaves on a dark background in this silk moth garden nature mandala. Green is in season and I am in anticipation of the short return of silkmoths. Although similar to our own East Coast luna moth, I would have to travel to the woodlands of southern Africa to find the African Moon Moth, Argema mimosa. It would be grand and very lucky to find one! As with all magnificent saturnid moths, with a short lifespan of about 1 week, and without mouthparts or a stomach in the adult forms, they must make quick work to bring the next generation forward. This is another homage to the “Audubon of Silkmoths” a late friend and colleague Jack Cody.
