Description
Generally nocturnal by nature, 4 yellow and green Malaysian moon moths, Actius maenas, with brown patterned velvet wings with long red tails and colorful eyespots are paired with 4 yellow comet moths or Madagascan moon moths, Argema mittrei, with broad yellow and lime colored wings also with prominent eyespots and long red tailed hind wings with yellow tips. As night flyers, these saturnid or silk moths are shrouded in darkness but are now highlighted by blue moonlight and displayed on a dark blue background with blue jungle leaves and twinkling blue stars in this magnificent nighttime moth nature mandala. Moth populations are threatened worldwide by multiple causes. Their natural habitat can be impacted in urban settings by light pollution in urban settings and acid rain from air pollution and pesticides. In more remote areas, deforestation of woodlands, particularly with the continual destruction of the rain forests and related tropical habitat so precious to saturnid or silk moths increasing narrows their range.
