Description
Shown in this checkerboard rainforest mandala are 8 whimsical Chiva art-inspired Keel-billed Toucans, Ramphastos sulfuratus, with colorful long bills blue legs and feet, and red rumps. They appear to be shaking hands (wings) greeting each other. The decorative art deco style designs that I have applied to their bodies and wings is characterized by a South American style of art known as “Chiva” made up in repeating combinations of circles, lines and a variety of geometric shapes used to describe depictions of animals and plants in bright colors and outlines. This artform has been in existence for over 90 years in Colombia and is created by talented artists and artisans who apply their creative craft to decorating rural transportation buses or escalera. I have placed my Chiva Toucans on a checkerboard pattern of green colors that can be found in rainforests and on the bodies of keel-billed toucans in this jungle bird nature mandala.
