Description
In Chiva Bird Tree, a sprawling brown tree trunk with flowing branches populated with white flowers and green leaves is the home to a variety of birds that includes: red cardinals, black and red woodpeckers, painted buntings, red scarlet macaws, multicolored toucans, and a single brown owl all on a white background.
The ornamental and decorative Chiva artform celebrates the lives of the people of South America, specifically Colombia in the form of art on rural bus transportation provided to its people for the last 90 years. Chiva artwork is characterized by circles and lines, and a variety of geometric shapes used in depictions of animals and plants in bright colors and outlines.
Since childhood with a fondness for not only nature but all decorative design--I too celebrate and embrace this artform, in over 40 examples, along with that of Native American and other indigenous cultures in many of my nature inspired mandala and rectangular images that can be found in multiple collections on my website phelpsmandala.com.
